Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based mental health intervention that aims to improve symptoms of psychological distress (e.g., symptoms of depression and anxiety). CBT works by challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, improving emotional control, and helping the development of personal coping strategies to improve problem-solving abilities.
CBT is part of a number of therapies, including:
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Mindfulness Based Approaches
  • Schema Focused Therapy
CBT has been found to be an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, personality disorders, addictions, anger management, eating disorders, as well as work related stress and burnout.
