In-Person Therapy
Meeting with a therapist in person gives you a private space to talk without distractions. Ottawa Therapy Group offers in-person therapy in Ottawa as part of our counselling services. When you book an in-office session with us, you meet a registered psychotherapist in a private room, in real time, with nothing between you and the conversation, and with someone whose whole focus for that hour is you. We work with individuals, couples and families, and our psychotherapy services cover concerns ranging from anxiety and depression through trauma, grief and long-standing relationship strain.
Below, we explain how our in-office sessions run, who tends to get the most out of them, and what you can expect from the space itself.

In Person Therapy at Our Ottawa Office
Meeting with your therapist in the same room can make conversation feel more natural. They can notice changes in your expression, posture or tone and respond as the conversation unfolds.
Coming into the office also gives the session its own time and place. For an hour, you can step away from home, work and other distractions and focus on what brought you in.
Our therapists work with individuals, couples and families dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and relationship concerns. Your first sessions focus on understanding what is happening, what you want to work on and how therapy can support you.
Who Gets the Most from In-Person Counselling in Ottawa
There is no single format that works best for everyone. In-person therapy may suit you if:
- You do not have enough privacy at home to speak openly.
- You find it easier to focus when your therapist is in the room with you.
- You are coming to therapy as a couple or family and want a neutral place to meet.
- You would rather work through difficult or emotional topics away from your everyday environment.
- You are new to counselling and feel more comfortable meeting your therapist face to face.
For some clients, simply leaving home for an appointment makes it easier to give therapy their full attention.
During sessions, our therapists may use cognitive behavioural therapy and other evidence-based approaches depending on your needs, goals and the concerns you want to address.
A Private Space for In-Person Psychotherapy
Our in-person sessions take place in private consulting rooms with the door closed. Registered psychotherapists in Ontario must follow professional standards around confidentiality, privacy and record keeping, and personal health information is protected under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
In most circumstances, what you discuss with your therapist remains confidential. Your therapist will also explain the limited situations in which they may be legally or professionally required to share information.
Having a private room can make it easier to talk about subjects you may not feel comfortable discussing elsewhere. You do not have to share everything at once. Trust can develop over time as you get to know your therapist and become more comfortable with the process.
Ottawa Therapy Group – Accessible Support, In Person and Online
Cost can affect whether therapy feels accessible. Ottawa Therapy Group offers sliding-scale options, and you can ask about fees and available options when you contact us.
We also provide secure online therapy for clients who cannot easily come to our Ottawa office or who simply prefer virtual sessions. Some clients meet with us entirely online, while others use a combination of online and in-person appointments depending on their schedule.
The in-person counselling services we provide include individual, couples and family therapy. You can also learn more about Ottawa Therapy Group and our team before deciding whether to book.
Your first appointment is a chance to talk about what brought you to therapy and what you would like help with. Your therapist will ask questions, listen and begin working with you on an approach that fits your goals.
